Understanding E-Waste Events

What is an E-waste Event?

Electronic E-waste round up events are organized by Junk That Funk to mitigate the amount of recyclable materials that end up in landfills. These events provide a hassle-free drop-off location where you can ensure your items will be 100% recycled!

What We Accept at Our E-Waste Events

At our free drop-off events, we accept a wide range of electronic items, including:

• Televisions
• Desktop computers and terminals
• Monitors
• Laptop computers
• Desktop printers
• Fax machines
• Disk drives
• CD-ROM drives
• Keyboards and mice
• Amplifiers, stereos, speakers, receivers
• Cameras, digital cameras
• Copiers, fax machines, scanners
• Pagers, PDAs
• Radios
• Telephones, cellphones, answering machines
• VCR and DVD players

Items We Cannot Accept

While we aim to recycle as much as possible, there are certain items we cannot accept:

• Fluorescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent bulbs, as they are considered hazardous waste.
• Old household thermostats containing mercury switches are also hazardous waste.
• Household smoke detectors can be disposed of with regular trash.
• CDs, VHS tapes, and music tapes are recyclable in the BLUE box.
• Documentation can be placed in the BLACK box for recycling.

The Importance of Recycling E-Waste

In 2014 alone, Junk That Funk successfully collected over 40 tons of e-waste during our round-up events. As stated on the city’s website, "E-waste accounts for 3000 tonnes or about 300 garbage trucks full of refuse added to our landfills each year," highlighting the critical need for e-waste recycling. Much of this e-waste consists of materials like steel, glass, copper, aluminum, plastics, and precious metals, all of which can be recycled and reused. By choosing to recycle, you not only reduce landfill waste but also help preserve our planet's resources.

Join Us for Our 2015 E-Waste Events

We are excited to announce our schedule for 2015:

Saturday, May 2 – Queenswood Heights Community Centre

Location: 1495 Duford Dr Ottawa, ON K1E 1K2

Time: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

We will accept all residential, commercial, and industrial e-waste (no hazardous materials, please).

Saturday, May 16 – Dover Court Recreational Centre
